Quick Update

April 28, 2008 at 7:36 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | 4 Comments

A lot has been happening lately, and I haven’t had much time to blog. In the last month, I have doubled my job responsibilities, have decided to sign up for classes at PBCC for the Transition to Teaching Program, and my dad is undergoing another brain surgery in the immediate future.

There’s a lot of changes going on, but I am trusting in the Sovereignty of God more than ever. I can’t imagine going through life thinking that things are just randomly happening, without the hand of God orchestrating them. God is the ultimate Sustainer and Creator of everything. I’m trusting that no matter what the outcomes are in life, that He is good and that His plan is to bless His children, even if that means times of hardship.

Also, on a lighter note, Mike has started at Youth For Christ and is loving it! He’s already met a ton of youth pastors in the western communities and has met people that are really excited about local highschools having the opportunity to find out more about Jesus!  Also, we just became members of the church that we’ve been regularly attending out in Wellington..Wellington Presbyterian. It feels like home, and I’m really excited about digging my feet into a permanent place. Mike and I have also decided to go on a month by month lease in our apartment, because we are currently house hunting!

Please pray for my family in general, as we all go through a ton of changes in the future!

Major Disappointment

Just my luck..The Bruce Springsteen concert is postponed to a later date. I guess that’s a selfish statement. Let me rephrase..Danny, the E-street band keyboardist passed away yesterday due to terminal cancer. Bruce and the boys are in mourning and have decided to postpone their concert dates in Ft. Lauderdale and Orlando. I guess I will not be dancing in the dark tonight. 😦

When I was a freshman in college, I had a roomate that absolutely loved the show Friends. I had never really watched it before college, but she had all the Dvds, so we would put it on all the time before bed and watch it. This has been a tradition that has carried over into my marriage. haha. Mike and I put on the dvdsnow every night before we go to bed. Most of the time, I don’t even make it through the first episode, but the familiarity of the noises help me fall asleep.

Mike and I put on season 7 last night, and we laughed like little girls. It was hilarious. Here’s one of my favorite Joey moments..

This video is so cute..haha.

Sometimes I Miss It.

Today, I really miss my church family at Noma. They’re the most wonderful, God-fearing people I know. We used to have church potlucks once a month on Sunday night..and I could definitely go for some Southern home-cooking right now. That was the first church that Mike and I both served at together, and it will always have a lasting impression on us. It’s where Mike got ordained, and where we really dug deep in the trenches of service and a totally different culture. I think a Graceville trip is on the horizon soon..:)

Oh Graceville..

I just saw this picture up on facebook, and it made me laugh so hard. Apparently, it was taken at the Subway right down the street from my school. It epitomizes everything that’s wrong with the Panhandle…This is why people know that Seminoles are dumb.

My Favorite Canes Fan

Work is hard. Ever since, I joined the “career” force…I feel like I’ve been through hell and back. Today I had another meeting that wasn’t pleasant. Not only that, but usually when we have “unpleasant” meetings..we do it together as a management team. Yesterday they thought it might be a good growing experience for me to do it all by myself. As you can imagine, my first reaction is to punch them in the face.

But, I value paying my bills, so I chose not to go with the punching route. I just had to suck it up and do it.  I’m not a big fan of confrontation, and don’t know why I ever thought I could handle a management position. I have to admit though, that I’m learning a lot about what I can do when the Holy Spirit takes over. When God is in control, and when I am believing the gospel..”that God is all-satisfying, and nothing else matters,” then I’m ok.

I feel like most of my life so far at least has had the chief aim of pleasing people, instead of living to please God. I make a tireless effort most of the time to have people like me and to not ever have an awkward confrontation. This isn’t how life works. In reality, life involves or should involve knowing and living for God, and suffering. Not one of the apostles ever had an easy, walk through life. I don’t know why any believer would expect otherwise. This is why the prosperity gospel is so offensive.

Besides, managing people, and having really fruitless meetings, I’m thoroughly enjoying my job. The little guy at the bottom is my best bud..Brian. We frequently jam out to Toby Keith’s “Should’ve been a Cowboy.” I look forward to him coming home from school and helping him out with his homework. When I hang out with him, and see his joy, despite unbelievable circumstances..I’m reminded of how simple and awesome life truly is.
